This Bible Reading Plan has many options for you to customize your journey through the Bible.

*  There are actually 8 plans available:

                   1. Read through the OT in 6 months
                   2. Read through the NT in 6 months
                   3. Read through the OT in 12 months
                   4. Read through the NT in 12 months
                   5. Read through the OT, chronologically, in 6 months
                   6. Read through the NT, chronologically, in 6 months
                   7. Read through the OT, chronologically, in 12 months
                   8. Read through the NT, chronologically, in 12 months

*   These plans are designed to work in conjunction with each other --- to read through the whole Bible in six months or one year, complete one OT and one NT reading each day.

*    To prevent the frustration which results from falling behind in your reading, several “free days” are included in each month’s plan. (Depending on the plan, there will be 20, 25, or 26 readings per month.)  The extra “free days” will give you the opportunity to catch up on missed days, study what you’ve read more in depth, or get ahead in your reading.

*   If reading through the entire Bible seems too large of a goal, feel free to modify the plans to fit your needs.  For example, you can choose to read through just the New Testament, or you can complete a New Testament reading one day and an Old Testament reading the next, and finish the Bible in two years.

*   The physical design of the plans will enable you to print them out (preferably on cardstock), cut them into columns, and attach the pieces back to back to make bookmarks.

1.      Set aside a specific time each day to read.  It will be easier to maintain your commitment if you have already worked this important part of your day into your schedule.

2.      Find a quiet place to read.  The fewer distractions you have, the easier it will be to concentrate on God’s Word and hear from Him!

3.      Begin every session with prayer.  Ask the Lord to give you an open, receptive, and understanding mind to receive what He has for you.

4.      Read a version of the Bible that you can understand. Don’t feel as though you must read the same version your friend is reading. Seek the Lord for which version is best for you.  …And if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask for help.

5.      Write in your Bible!  Underline.  Write notes in the margins.  Highlight.  Jot down questions, comments, ideas, connections, etc.  I can’t stress this one enough.  The Bible is the Word of God – and in order for you to make the most of it, you need to remember what you read. These notes, underlines, and other markings will increase your ability to recall, help you find meaningful passages quickly, and stir your faith the next time you read that passage.

6.      Respond to what you read.  Resist the temptation to read your Bible in order to complete your “assignment” for the day.  When something stands out in your mind as important, commit it to prayer, take time to reflect, and apply the truth you’ve read to your life!
